Rowland Hobbs
CEO, Co-founder

Tell us about your background. What made you want to work for startup like Stake and what's been your favorite part so far?

I'm a self-taught iOS Engineer without a formal CS degree. I've been mainly working for smaller startups for about 7 years. I love being able to put on multiple hats and moving fast in a startup environment - shipping fast and breaking things. My favorite part so far at Stake has been diving straight into a core important feature on day 1 and jamming with the small, but awesome engineering team.

We've learned that you like to live a nomadic lifestyle. Tell us about your travels and why you enjoy it?

I've been living the digital nomad lifestyle for the past 4-5 years and have traveled to over 30 countries (and countless cities). My favorite part about traveling is exploring/discovering different cultures. Rather than doing touristy things - I prefer trying to live like the locals and blend in as much as I can. I also find myself way more productive in coffee shops, co-working spaces, or even on airplanes than in normal office settings. (Side note: one of my biggest hobbies is collecting/churning credit cards and using points to redeem for free flights and hotels.)

You've built dozens of iOS apps. What is it that you enjoy about mobile app development? What stands out about the Stake App in particular?

I'm passionate about everything iOS and love learning new frameworks within the ecosystem. I like the simple/intuitive designs of the Stake App. And I'm super excited to be able to help contribute and make the app even better.

Stake's Mission is to make renting more financially rewarding. Where do you see Stake in five years, and how does Stake's mission resonate with you?

In five years I envision Stake being one of the top players disrupting the Neobank/Fintech space. Stake's mission resonated with me because I'm most likely going to continue renting as a nomad, and would definitely not mind collecting Cash Back as a result.

If you were earning Stake Cash Back today, what would you save for?

I would 100% save for my next travel destination. 😄
